In 2008, the RES Compass project team embarked on the task of raising the awareness of career opportunities in the emerging Renewable Energy Sector (RES). The website www.rescompass.org was created with the ultimate aim of encouraging school students to become the next generation of a skilled work force capable of leading the renewable energy revolution.
As RES Compass.org approaches its first birthday, we are pleased to announce that we have achieved over ten times the original visitor target with 34,271 unique visitors to date. The users have come from countries across the EU-27 with the majority of visitors originating from Greece, France, Finland, Spain, England and the Czech Republic.
The site allows the use of a decision tool (the ‘compass’) the results of which point students to the renewable energy career category they may be most suited to and find most interesting. The site also has 46 job profiles related to specific careers in the renewable energy sector and a searchable database of university and vocational courses. The original target for course entries on the database was around 300 but the total has surpassed 700 across the EU-27.
